What Leaders & Servants do we have?

Pastors/Elders

The New Testament uses three words to describe this office: elder, overseer (bishop) and pastor (shepherd). The task of this office is to oversee all of the work of the church and guide it, primarily through the work of teaching the Word to and praying for the church and its members.

Deacons

Deacons serve the church primarily by organizing it's work. Meaning, they care for its members and their practical needs because they are Christians, but they help to equip and organize others to take part in that work because they are deacons.

Trustees

While trustees don't show up in the New Testament, they operate as sort of a specialized deacon in our church. Our trustees serve the church by overseeing our facilities and finances.

Patrick Burger

Pastor/Elder

Patrick, his wife Erica, and his children Evangeline, Gloria, and Emmett moved to De Smet in October 2024 so Patrick could take up the office of elder, or pastor here at DCC.

At a young age Patrick was presented the Gospel by his mother, and made a profession of faith. He understood that he was a sinner, and that he had earned death, both earthly and eternally. He couldn't earn his salvation, he couldn't be good enough. He needed outside help, so he turned from his sin, and trusted in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

He was baptized at Maranatha Bible Church at 7 or 8 years old, and first began to realize a call to ministry in high-school at Freedom Road Bible Church. He went on to attend Word of Life Bible Institute in upstate NY, where he began to work in the ministry as an open-air evangelist.

He first took up the role of pastor/elder at Living Waters Community Church in an associate capacity, then at Church of the Vine, both in Newburgh, NY. In 2021 Patrick, Erica, and Evangeline moved to SD and began attending West Center Baptist Church in Madison SD where Patrick participated in a pastoral internship before receiving the call to serve here at DCC.

Patrick is passionate about seeing the church become more Biblical, and more Christlike. His basic contention is that God gave us a book to guide our lives, our families, and our church, and being obeying it as closely as possible we prove his wisdom and power when we succeed in glorifying Him.
